Ashfield head to Townhead Park tomorrow afternoon (19/12/09) to take on Cumnock Juniors in the West SuperLeague First Division - Kick-Off 1.45pm (Weather Permitting). Cumnock has not been a happy hunting ground for the `field over the years however Ashfield produced a terrific performance against Cumnock earlier in the Season at Saracen Park winning by 3-1. Ashfield produced their best performance of the Season defeating Glenafton Athletic by 4-1 at Loch Park this afternoon(12/12/09) in the West SuperLeague First Division. With the game level (1-1) at the interval, the Men in Black & White produced a tremendous attacking display in the Second Half to record their first League victory since 3rd October. Ashfield head to Beechwood Park in the Third Round of the West of Scotland Cup to take on Scottish Junior Cup Holders Auchinleck Talbot. The teams have not met each other for over 10 years & an exciting encounter is expected. Ashfield Coach Jim Stevenson will fondly remember the last encounter when Ashfield won 2-0 in the SJC at Saracen Park in 1996.

Ashfield were denied a share of the spoils by a Wonder strike from Clydebank Substitute Mark Hailstones at Saracen Park this afternoon (5/12/09). In a fiercely contested Match, the `field were thwarted by the impressive Stefan Gonet in the Bankies Goal in the Second Half in a game of few clear cut chances. Two First Half goals cost Ashfield dear as they went down 2-0 at Ladywell Park, Maybole this afternoon (28/11/09). The 'field came back strongly in the Second Half but despite many efforts they could not penetrate the Maybole rearguard. Ashfield suffered heartbreak at Saracen Park this afternoon (21/11/09) losing an injury time goal, via the penalty spot, to lose 1-0 to Whitletts Victoria. This had been the second penalty conceded by Ashfield, the first being missed & reducing Ashfield to 10 men with the dismissal of Chris Prior. Both teams put on a good show in dreadful weather conditions however it is the team from Ayr that will be celebrating this evening. Ashfield went down 3-1 in controversial circumstances at Western Park, Renfrew this afternoon (7/11/09) in the West SuperLeague First Division. It had been an excellent performance from Ashfield & despite having the bulk of possession & chances, the `field could not capitalise & lost 2 late goals in an incredible end to the game which saw 5 players Red-Carded - 4 for Ashfield & 1 for Renfrew. Ashfield crashed out of the Emirates Airline`s sponsored Scottish Junior Cup to St Anthony`s this afternoon (31/10/09) at McKenna Park. Trailing 1-0 at Half time & 3-0 midway through the Second Half, the `field fought back to narrowly lose out 3-2 in a frantic finish to the Match. Two late goal-line clearances & a missed penalty unfortunately were not turned into goals & the long wait for Junior Cup success now extends to 101 years. Ashfield were not in League Action this afternoon, however warmed up for next week`s Scottish Junior Cup Tie at St Anthony`s with a 7-0 win over Vale Of Leven at Alexandria. An excellent attacking display from the `field with goals from Chalmers (3), Carmichael (2), Thomson, & Jim Smith at a very difficult venue.

Ashfield struggled into the 2nd round of the West of Scotland Cup this afternoon (17/10/09) against a well organised & determined Newmains Utd. The scoreline after ninety minutes was 0-0 with the 'field winning 4-3 on Penalty Kicks with Tony Chalmers scoring the winning Penalty. Airlines Scottish Junior Cup 2nd Round Draw has been made and we have been drawn against St Anthony's away at McKenna Park on Saturday 31st October with a 2pm Kick-Off.

Ashfield lost out narrowly 3-2 in a pulsating 90 minutes against Rutherglen Glencairn at the New Clyde Gateway Stadium this afternoon (10/10/09). After taking the lead through Tony Chalmers midway through the first half, the `field conceded a couple of avoidable goals to find themselves chasing the game & despite Paul Maxwell pulling Ashfield level, another goal midway through the Second Half gave the home side victory. Ashfield secured their 4th League Victory in a row to hit the top of the West SuperLeague First Division after defeating Maybole by 4-1 at Saracen Park this afternoon (26/9/09). Goals from Martin, Fraser, Thomson & Maxwell ensured Maybole`s first visit to Saracen Park since the 1950/1951 Season was not a happy one. Ashfield won their 3rd League game in a row by producing an outstanding display against a very good Cumnock side this afternoon (19/9/09). Two goals from Paul Maxwell in the first half & a terrific goal from Darren O`Donnell with 7 minutes remaining ensured a 3-1 win for the `field. A dramatic 89th Minute Winner by Darren O`Donnell ensured a memorable win for Ashfield this afternoon (12/9/09) against Clydebank at Holm Park. The `field had defended magnificently all afternoon and produced a few scary moments for Clydebank particularly in the Second Half before the goal which was put in by Darren after a cut back from Alistair Martin on the left. Ashfield secured their first victory in the West SuperLeague against a very good Girvan side this afternoon (5/9/2009) at Saracen Park. Ashfield narrowly missed out on making it to the League Cup Final this evening (25/8/09) going down 6-5 on Penalties after the Match ended all square 0-0. Ashfield lost a 90th Minute equaliser at Saracen Park this afternoon to deny them their first win in the West SuperLeague after looking odds on to take the points. Ashfield made their first ever appearance in the West SuperLeague First Division today (15/8/09) however lost at Brig`o`Lea Park, Neilston by 3-1. A goal midway through the first half by Tony Chalmers looked to set the `field on their way, however an equaliser before half time and two late goals secured the points for Neilston. Ashfield won Sectional League Cup Group 6 this evening (11/08/09) defeating Clydebank 2-1 at Saracen Park. Goals from Sean Fraser & Paul Maxwell saw the `field defeat Clydebank for the first time since they returned back to the Junior game. On behalf of all at Ashfield F C, the Official Website wishes to pass on its sincerest condolences firstly to the friends & family of John Owens who wore the Black & White strip with distinction for many years. In addition Ashfield were saddened to hear of the death of Cumnock Goalkeeper Graham Potter - Again our sincerest condolences are passed onto friends & family.

Ashfield overcame a highly talented Bo`ness United team at Westfield Park, Denny this afternoon(18/07/09) winning 5-2 in the Dunipace Tournament. An awesome Second Half performance from Ashfield this afternoon at Tinto Park, Govan, netting 6 goals and finishing up winning 7-2 against a very determined Benburb Team. Ashfield suffered a heavy defeat tonight (4-0) in the Semi-Final of the Sectional League Cup at Saracen Park. Ashfield created plenty of chances but could not find the net. Paul Maxwell was also taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle to cap a miserable night for the 'field'. Ashfield won on penalties (4-3) this evening against Glencairn after a 1-1 draw. Paul Maxwell scored the winning penalty to take the `field into next week`s Semi Final against Shotts Bon Accord at Saracen Park (3/9/08). Ashfield overcame a very determined Yoker Athletic this evening at Saracen Park to win the League Cup Section for the first time since the 1988-89 Season. An excellent achievement ! Ashfield lost 1-0 today against Glencairn at New Southcroft Park in the First League Match of the Season. Ashfield squandered numerous chances and were denied an absolute 'stonewaller' of a penalty midway through the Second Half against a very good Glencairn Team. The Referee was the only person in the ground who did not see this as a penalty and his performance undermined the high level played by both teams today. A great team performance against a strong East Kilbride Team ensured the `field reached the Semi Final for the second year running. A terrific achievement. Tues.25th Aug.2009:- Ashfield F & A C 0 v 0 Arthurlie. Kick-Off 6.30pm. (Arthurlie win 6-5 on pens) A keenly contested Semi Final ended all square with defences on top throughout. It was a drmatic penalty shoot-out with Arthurlie eventually coming out on top 6-5.

Sat.15th Aug.2009:- Neilston F C 3 v 1 Ashfield F & A C. Kick-Off 2pm. Ashfield lost the opening day fixture at Brig`o`lea Park, Neilston after making an impressive start. Tony Chalmers opened the scoring for Ashfield , however the `field conceded before Half Time. Two late goals secured victory for the home team.

Sat.22nd Aug.2009:- Ashfield F & A C 2 v 2 Glenafton Athletic. Kick-Off 2pm. Two first half goals from Mark Thomson & Craig Smith were not enough to secure the three points for the `field as late goals from Feroz & Livingston denied the `field`s first win in the SuperLeague.

Sat.29th Aug.2009:- Annbank United 3 v 0 Ashfield F & A C. Kick-Off 2pm. Ashfield paid the price for missed chances at New Pebble Park as the hosts finished their chances clinically to inflict the `fields biggest defeat for a year.

Sat.10th Oct.2009:- R`Glen Glencairn 3 v 2 Ashfield F & A C. Kick-Off 2pm. A great advert for Junior Football as both teams gave their all with passion and skill in an encounter that could have gone either way. Unfortunately for the `field it was a narrow defeat. First half goals from Tony Chalmers & Paul Maxwell were not enough in this exciting encounter.

Sat.7th Nov.2009:- Renfrew 3 v 1 Ashfield F & A C. Kick-Off 2pm. Ashfield incredibly lost this Match and ended up with 7 Men despite going ahead in the 7th Minute through Paul Maxwell. 1-1 at Half Time, the`field had many chances to secure the points however lost 2 late goals amid scenes of mayhem.

Sat.14th Nov.2009:- Ashfield F & A C 2 v 3 East Kilbride Thistle. Trailing 1-0 at Half Time after a lacklustre performance, Second half goals from Gordon Passmore & Paul Maxwell were not enough as Ashfield lost their long unbeaten home record.

Sat.21st Nov.2009:- Ashfield F & A C 0 v 1 Whitletts Victoria. Kick-Off 2pm. Ashfield suffered heartbreak in the 90th Minute conceding a penalty. Although McGovern saved the spot-kick, the forward slammed home the rebound to take the points back to Ayr. A battling performance from the `field who played last 30 minutes with 10 Men after Chris Prior was dismissed.

Glenafton Athletic 1 Ashfield F & A C 4 , Loch Park, New Cumnock, Kick-Off 1.45pm

Ashfield produced a tremendous display at a freezing Loch Park this afternoon. Both Teams entered the game on the back of some topsy-turvy form, however a great game of Football was produced with the men from North Glasgow putting in their best performance for a long while. The signs had been good for Ashfield despite recent results and a great attacking display in the Second Half ensured Ashfield left New Cumnock with a 4-1 victory

Ashfield graced the Loch Park turf in their traditional Black & White hoops whilst Glenafton came out in an all White Strip with Red Trimmings as the 200 plus Crowd took their place in this tidy ground. Ashfield still smarting from their narrow defeat at home to the Bankies last week started off the game at great gusto and after 4 minutes were 1-0 up. A lovely through ball from Mark Thomson found Paul Maxwell just inside the box & the prolific striker drilled a shot low and hard into the corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. Glenafton Ath 0 Ashfield 1.

Glenafton reacted quickly to the visitors good start and forced a series of dangerous corners which were cleared to safety. The visitors looked lively on the break with winger Alistair Martin producing great skill on the left hand side & on the 16th Minute the `field should have gone further ahead when after a lovely move involving Martin, Cairley and Passmore, Maxi found some room inside the box and his well struck shot was well saved by the legs of the Glenafton keeper. Ashfield then had a series of dangerous corners however could not add to their lead. The Ashfield defence were looking strong so it came as a bit of a shock to them when the home side levelled in the 29th Minute.

A lovely floated cross to the back post was won by the No 10 of Glenafton whose knock down was lashed home by Ex-Stenhousemiur striker Joe Savage to put Derek Ferguson`s side level. Glenafton Ath 1 Ashfield 1.

Ashfield did not let this set back deter them and Del Carmichael should have put Ashfield ahead when he was played through, however the back four of Glenafton smothered his shot as the Referee brought First Half proceedings to an end.

HALF TIME:- GLENAFTON ATH. 1 ASHFIELD 1

Ashfield knew they would be in for a tough Second Half as not many teams leave Loch Park with maximum points, so from an Ashfield point of view, it was great to see the Black & White hoops have a real go at the home side from the start of the Second half. This paid off in the 46th Minute when Alistair Martin picked up the ball just inside the Glens half before driving at the left back and delivering an inch perfect cross to the onrushing Paul Maxwell who despatched a low shot into the corner of the net to put the `field 2-1 up. Glenafton Ath 1 Ashfield 2.

It was `game on `now and the home side fought back strongly forcing a couple of corners and Free-Kicks however the Ashfield back four were in top form especially big Jim Smith who kept the danger of Joe Savage well intact. Glenafton are a very good Footballing Team and continued with their slick passing & although they were missing the trickery of Jose Quitongo ,who was on the home side bench, the Ashfield rearguard dealt well with all attacks and started to hit on the break.

Ashfield almost increased their lead in the 65th Minute when after a lovely passing move, Gordon Passmore drilled a shot goalwards which was brilliantly tipped over by the Glens keeper. As the minutes ticked by it was Ashfield`s Centre Forward Paul Maxwell who made the big impact on the game scoring a magnificent 3rd and his own hat-trick.

The Ashfield striker picked up the ball up at the edge of the box before cutting in and delivering a curling shot into the top corner of the net to the delight of the players, bench and travelling support - What a goal Maxi ! and the celebration that ensued was well merited. Glenafton Ath 1 Ashfield 3.

Ashfield had brought on last Season`s Top Scorer Craig Smith and the striker looked electric when he came on and within 5 minutes charged at the home defence before lashing the ball into the corner of the net to put Ashfield 4-1 up. It really was a superb goal. Glenafton Ath 1 Ashfield 4.

Glenafton to their credit finished the game strongly and brought out two wonder saves from Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal as it was just one of these days for the home side. Ashfield have had a few of these days recently and their recent efforts were more than deserved today.

It was a very sporting affair well managed by the Referee and the kind hospitality by the Glens was well received on such a cold day. Well done Ashfield and all the best to the Glens for the remainder of the season.

Ashfield failed to make it three wins out of three against Clydebank this season, going down 1-0 to a 25 yarder from Clydebank substitute Mark Hailstones in the 58th Minute. The `field can consider themselves rather unfortunate not to take something from the game after pressuring the visitors strongly in the Second Half, however came up against a very good Goalkeeper in Stefan Gonet.

Ashfield made a couple of changes to the Team which lost at Maybole last Saturday with Chris Prior returning in Goal and Coll & Jim Smith returning to the back four and it was Ashfield that started the game the stronger team with Paul Maxwell failing to hit the target in the 5th Minute after finding space inside the box from a Mark Thomson Cross. Shortly after and it was the same player who was put through on goal only to be denied by the Bankies Keeper. From the resulting Corner, Maxi almost scored with a glancing header which went narrowly over.

To their Credit Clydebank came back strongly and began to take a grip of the Match especially in midfield and almost took the lead in the 22nd Minute after Stevie Dallas drilled a shot against the post after a headed knock down.

The Midfield was congested and tackling was fierce on a pitch that stood up well to the recent wet weather and the large Clydebank crowd were beginning to get frustrated at the lack of goal scoring opportunities, however just on Half time Ex-Petershill forward Stevie Dallas found himself through on goal lifting the ball over the advancing Prior and inches wide of the far post. That proved to be the last chance of the first half as Referee Newlands blew for Half Time.

HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 CLYDEBANK 0

It was Ashfield again that started the stronger forcing a number of early corners which were dealt with well by the back four and Gonet in goal. Mark Thomson was beginning to stamp his authority on the game and almost put the `field 1-0 up after 57 minutes when through on goal. His low shot was well saved by the Bankies Keeper, and virtually 30 seconds later Clydebank opened the scoring. Mark Hailstones was brought on for Andy Selkirk early in the Second Half and with virtually his first touch of the ball steadied himself 25 yards out and hit an inswinging shot which flew past Chris Prior and into the top corner of the net to send the visiting fans wild. Ashfield 0 Clydebank 1.

Ashfield didn`t let this set-back effect them and should have been level 5 minutes later when Mark Thomson cut in from the left and drilled an angled shot goalwards only to see the Bankies keeper pull off a wonderful save to his left. Ryan Cairley in the Ashfield Midfield was having a great game as Ashfield surged forward looking for an equaliser. The Clydebank defence were marking tight and dealt well with crosses into the box. Jim Smith tried his luck after picking up the ball on the edge of the box and his low shot was turned round the post by Gonet.

As the clock ticked away closer to the 90th minute, Ashfield substitute Shaun Fraser almost levelled the Match. The Midfielder picked up the ball on the left cutting in before despatching a low shot which was deflected agonisingly wide to the groans of the Home Support.

It had been a good Second Half performance from Ashfield, however, as has happened in recent weeks they failed to get anything from the Match as the Referee brought proceedings to an end. The Match finished on a sour note after the final whistle had been blown with many of the players becoming embroiled in the penalty box which was eventually sorted out by the Officials.

Man of the Match:- It was a good Second Half performance from Ashfield especially in the middle of the Park with Ryan Cairley producing one of his best performances of the Season.

It was a real `Cup-Tie` Match at Ladywell Stadium this afternoon as both teams were determined to get back to winning ways and climb up the League & the result was that the game had the crowd on tenderhooks right up to the 90th minute, however it is the home side that kept the points at Ayrshire after a very good first half performance.

Both teams entered the park wearing their traditional strips and despite the recent inclement weather the park had held up well apart from the grass being a trifle on the the long side. Ashfield, still smarting, from losing a 90th minute penalty last week started the game at great gusto and a massive talking point in the Match happened after only 90 seconds when Tony Chalmers picked up the ball inside the Maybole half and raced into the penalty box only to be hauled down. It looked a certain penalty however the Referee looked long and hard at the decison and to the dismay of the Ashfield support waved play on instead of awarding a penalty for the visitors.

This did not deter Ashfield and 3 minutes later after a corner on the right Del Carmichael`s glancing header brought out a wonderful one handed save from the Maybole keeper. Shortly after and the same player had an overhead kick well saved. After the good start from then `field to the Match, it was the home side that took a grip of the Match and dominated for the remaining period in the first half putting the `field under incessant pressure, especially from set pieces.

Stevie McGovern in the Ashfield goal had already produced a brilliant save from the Maybole No 10 before picking the ball out of the net in the 26th Minute. A wicked free-kick was delivered to the far post and it was a Maybole Midfielder that got on the end of the cross to bullet a header under McGovern and into the net to the delight of the home support. Maybole 1 Ashfield 0.

It was one-way traffic at this stage and Ashfield were struggling to cope with the aerial threat of the Maybole attack and in the 40th minute fell further behind albeit unluckily. A corner was whipped in which was played out to the onrushing Maybole No 3 who leathered the ball goalwards, with the ball taking a deflection and ending up in the corner of the net to put the home side 2-0 up. Maybole 2 Ashfield 0. Ashfield knew they were up against it and it would have to take a brilliant second half performance to retrieve any points form the Match.

HALF TIME:- MAYBOLE 2 ASHFIELD 0

Ashfield came `out the traps` very quickly in the Second Half and the tempo of the Match was far quicker with the`field beginning to put their passing game together. Alistair Martin on the left was seeing far more of the ball and an early raid down the left saw the wingers cross scrambled wide for a corner. Ashfield began to put concerted pressure on the home defence and the Maybole Keeper was kept busy.

Tony Chalmers was trying to make an impact on the right however was kept in check by the Maybole defence, however from time to time he managed to break free of his markers and cut in causing alarm to the back four of the team in Maroon. Mark Thomson had a couple of free kicks which went narrowly wide however despite the pressure Ashfield still had nothing to show for their efforts and Maybole began to hit the `field on the break.

A lovely lobbed shot from Maybole No 9 almost increased their lead and Stevie McGovern in the Ashfield goal was relieved to see the ball go narrowly over the bar. Paul Maxwell was trying his utmost to get a goal back however was thwarted by the keeper on a couple of occasions and Del Carmichael had a very good glancing header well held by the Maybole Keeper. Darren O`Donnell & Shaun Fraser were introduced and O`Donnell had a turn and shot which

went narrowly over. As it was as Ashfield pushed forward, Maybole almost increased their lead with ten minutes to go on the break with only a last gasp block from Gordon Passmore on the line preventing a goal.

Ashfield kept pressing and showed some good Football but it just wasn`t to be as the Maybole defence stood firm. The Referee played 3 additional minutes before bringing proceedings to an end at a chilly Ladywell Park. Ashfield welcome Clydebank to Saracen Park next Saturday in what is going to be a crucial League Match.

FULL TIME:- MAYBOLE 2 ASHFIELD 0

Man of the Match:- It was a disappointing First Half display from the `field however they certainly lifted their performance in the Second half and were unlucky not to salvage something from the game. Paul Mangan had a terrific 90 minutes and was unlucky to be on the losing side.

Ashfield F & A C 0 Whitletts Victoria 1 , Saracen Park, Glasgow - Kick-Off 1.45pm

Great Credit must be given to the Groundstaff for ensuring that Saracen Park hosted one of the few games that survived the Weather this weekend and both teams deserve a lot of credit for serving up a good game of Football in treacherous conditions. However it is the team from Ayr that will heading down the M77 delighted at snatching an injury time winner via the penalty spot. It was a hard one for Ashfield to take especially after surviving an earlier penalty miss which had resulted in Chris Prior being dismissed.

Wind and driving rain greeted the players at the start of the Match with both teams playing in their traditional strips and it was the visitors that settled into the Match quicker with their distinct height difference being used to their advantage. Ashfield were guilty in the early stages of giving away too many set pieces which caused many a problem for the `field rearguard however on the whole they were well defended by Ashfield with Prior in goal and Paul Mangan getting on the end of some wicked deliveries.

It was a fiercely contested Midfield and neither team were allowing the opposition any space resulting in a first half of very few chances. Ashfield`s front two of Maxwell & O`Donnell were holding the ball up well however were more often than not crowded out by an eager Whitletts defence. The best chance of the first half came on the 32nd Minute to Whitletts after another Corner Kick was whipped into the far post. The Visitors No 2 outjumped the defence at the back and his header crashed off the junction of the Bar and Post to the relief of the home support. Shortly after this however Darren O`Donnell managed to wriggle free of his marker and his low drive was well saved by the Whitletts Keeper. Both teams continued to cancel each other out as the Referee brought first half proceedings to an end to the relief of the players who would need a change of strip for the Second Half.

HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 WHITLETTS V 0

The park had taken a bit of a bruising in the first half and was extremely gluey in certain areas however this did not dampen both teams as they served up an action packed Second Half. Ashfield started brightly with pressure being exerted on the visitors however their defence stood firm blocking a couple of shots from O`Donnell and then Maxwell. At the other end Chris Prior in the Ashfield Goal produced a brilliant one handed save after a cross was deflected goalwards by Paul Mangan.

The game however turned on its head just past the hour mark when a long ball was played over the Ashfield defence between Jamie Coll & Chris Prior. The ball landed between them and slowed up in the mud allowing the Whitletts Forward to nip and take the ball around the Ashfield Keeper only to be brought down. The Referee had no hesitation in pointing to the Spot and flashing a Red Card at Chris Prior. This was a cruel bit of luck for Ashfield with no one to blame apart from the conditions. Ryan Cairley was sacrificed for Ashfield`s reserve keeper, Stevie McGovern and to the home side`s delight, the No 11 of Whitletts dragged his penalty wide of the goal to ensure the Match remained level.

This gave Ashfield a boost despite being reduced to 10 Men and Mark Thomson had a 25 yard net bound shot brilliantly tipped over by the visiting Keeper. A couple of minutes later & the Ashfield Captain whipped in a low free-kick which was blocked by the legs of the Whitletts keeper and cleared to safety. This was Ashfield`s best spell of the Match and were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty after Paul Maxwell charged at the visitors goal only to be brought down right on the Penalty Box line. Penalty or Free Kick ? - Referee Euan Anderson awarded a Free Kick to the disappointment of the home support (See Pic Below - The Camera never lies !!). Mark Thomson again stepped up and his curling shot crashed off the Crossbar.

It looked like despite the efforts of both teams that a draw would be the outcome however Whitletts were awarded a Corner Kick in the 90th Minute. With the game barely visible due to the overhead conditions the Corner was whipped in & was won by a Whitletts Player whose downward header was blocked at the post by a falling Jamie Coll. The Linesman at the far side deemed that the ball had hit the Ashfield defender on the arm and the Referee awarded a second penalty for the visitors.

The spot kick was saved low down by Stevie McGovern, but the penalty taker was quickest to react and slammed home the rebound to the delight of the Whitletts Players, Management & Support. It was cruel on Ashfield however they can be encouraged after putting in a good performance.

FULL TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 WHITLETTS V 1

Man of the Match:- It was a tough game for Ashfield as Whitletts closed down the players very quickly, however taking the whole 90 minutes into account, Paul Maxwell`s Contribution at both ends of the park was invaluable.

Attendance:- Was slightly down from previous weeks due to the Weather conditions with roughly 70 braving the elements today.

Saracen Park survived the overnight downpours with the turf looking splendid as the teams ran on to the pitch for this League match. Ashfield had reverted to their all red strip with the visitors in their black and White vertical stripes. The game started slowly with both teams battling hard for possession. East Kilbride were certainly in a buoyant mood and should have opened the scoring after only three minutes. Nice play on the left side of the Ashfield box saw the ball played across to the EK striker who lashed the ball low and hard but it slid past McGovern's post from eight yards out. This was a warning to the 'field' early on and one they did not take on board.

Ashfield tried to impose themselves on the match but found it hard against an eager EK team. The game was littered with fouls in the early exchanges with Ashfield having numerous set pieces but could not find that killer cross to upset the vistors defence. EK looked sharp up front and constantly tormented the Ashfield rearguard with neat one-two's but their shooting was wayward in the final quarter of the pitch.

Ashfield had a great chance to take the lead on the half hour mark. A free kick was awarded approx. forty yards out with Mark Thomson whipping a great cross to Paul Maxwell, but the ball squirmed off Maxi's shoulder and out for a goal kick.

Half time was approaching as the opening goal was scored and it was to the visitors. A shot from twenty yards out was fired towards the Ashfield goal which bounced just before Stevie McGovern in the Ashfield goal. The big Ashfield keeper could not keep a hold of the ball as it bounced off his chest to the onrushing EK striker who slotted the ball into the net from four yards out. Ashfield 0 East Kilbride Thistle 1 . This was a body blow to Ashfield with literally no time to recover as the referee blew for half time in now cold conditions.

HALF TIME: ASHFIELD 0 EAST KILBRIDE 1

Both teams made no changes at half time as the second half started. Ashfield needed to increase their work rate and passing if they were to get anything out of this match but the game started on a similar vein to the first half with EK commanding the midfield area and creating chances. Ashfield Manager Stevie Rankin had seen enough after only five minutes of the second half and made two changes which sparked Ashfield into life, but as Ashfield started to get back into the game EK scored a second goal after fifty five minutes. A corner was whipped in to the Ashfield box which was met by an unchallenged EK player who saw his header stopped by McGovern in the Ashfield goal but unfortunately for Ashfield thr ball fell to an EK player who swivelled and tucked the ball under the keeper to give the visitors a precious two nil lead. Ashfield 0 East Kilbride Thistle 2.

This second goal really gave Ashfield a jolt and the Possil team now started to press forward with new sub Tony Chalmers involved in the potential comeback. Chalmers teased his counterpart and delivered some great crosses which were defended well by the EK defence. Ashfield got a lifeline after seventy five minutes with a beautiful goal. Chalmers fired in a cross which looked to be behind Gordon Passmore but the right back arched his back and fired in a scissor kick shot that flew past the EK goalkeeper from fifteen yards for the amicable Defenders first goal of the season. Ashfield 1 East Kilbride Thistle 2.

It was now 'Game on' as the confidence flooded back into the Ashfield team. Cairley was instrumental in the midfield area and fed Chalmers at every opportunity. Ashfield were now the dominant team and almost grabbed an equaliser after eighty minutes. Craig Smith picked the ball up deep inside the EK box on the right side and volleyed a lovely cross to the back post area. Davie Gumley came rushing in and looked a certainty to score from six yards but his half volley narrowly went over the bar.

The match changed again though as Ashfield were reduced to ten men. Gordon Passmore was alleged to have taken down the EK player but it seemed he won the ball fairly. Referee Mulvanny, thought otherwise and produced a second yellow . A harsh decision!.

This did not deter Ashfield though as they maintained a quick pace but were obviously exposed at the back and this showed after eighty four minutes with EK scoring a killer third goal. A ball was played into the right side of the Ashfield box which was trapped well by the EK player who spotted his team mate at the back post. He drilled the ball across and it looked as if the danger was over as he miscontrolled but he turned and lashed the ball high into the net from seven yards. Ashfield 1 East Kilbride Thistle 3

This seemed to be the game over but Ashfield were not finished yet. Darren O'Donnell went on a run down the left wing and played the ball to Paul Maxwell who slid the ball past his marker and thundered the ball into the net from six yards out to give Ashfield a lifeline with two minutes to play. A brilliant goal from Ashfield`s top Marksman. Ashfield 2 East Kilbride Thistle 3. It was now an onslaught for the remaining minutes but the EK defence stood firm and the Referee brought proceedings to an end after four minutes of injury time.

FULL TIME: ASHFIELD 2 EAST KILBRIDE 3

The scoreline was a fair reflection of the match with Ashfield looking out of sorts today. Next week we host Whitletts Victoria at Saracen Park.

Man of the Match:- It wasn`t one of Ashfield`s most memorable performances at Saracen Park & in this regard the visitors must take the credit for this, however Paul Maxwell managed to dominate towards the end of the Match, scoring a terrific goal into the bargain.

Ashfield headed over to Renfrew yesterday looking to consolidate their position at the Top of the Division and also looking to bounce back from last week`s exit from the Scottish Junior Cup. The Match itself turned out to be an absolute cracker with both teams having a real go at each other with the visitors from Springburn producing a very good display only for it to go wrong in the closing minutes. Unfortunately the crowd leaving the ground should have been talking about the Match itself however the Referee`s decisions took centre stage in the discussions.

Ashfield had made a couple of changes from last week`s Match at McKenna Park and started the game very well with a tempo that Renfrew struggled to Match. In the 2nd Minute the Referee had a big decision to make when Paul Maxwell rounded the Keeper in the box and was unceremoniously brought down. A stonewall penalty ? and a possible Red Card for the Keeper - `no` was the Referee`s decision as he decided to give Ashfield the advantage ? The Ball was eventually cleared by the Renfrew defence.

Ashfield did not let this affect them and Mark Thomson & Alistair Martin were linking up well with the front two and in 7 Minutes Ashfield got their reward when Mark Thomson played a lovely floated ball through to Paul Maxwell who broke the Renfrew offside trap to glance a header past the onrushing Keeper to put the `field 1-0 up. Renfrew 0 Ashfield 1.

To their Credit the home side gradually forced their way back into the Match and started to test the Ashfield back four with the Renfrew No 9 McLean and the No 11 causing problems. Ashfield to their credit however managed to restrict the `frew to Free-Kicks from outside the box. In the 24th Minute Ashfield should have gone further ahead when Ali Martin found himself running through on goal only for his floated shot to be well saved by the Renfrew keeper. Shortly after Darren O`Donnell found himself through however miscontrolled in front of goal to the relief of the home support.

Just on the half hour mark Ashfield had a major let off after Chris Prior saved well from the Renfrew forward. The ball was parried out to the edge of the six yard box and the onrushing Renfrew Midfielder lashed the ball against the upright and the ball was eventually cleared to safety. This relief for Ashfield was only short-lived and Renfrew pulled level in the 36th Minute when a low hard ball into the six yard box was met by McLean, who stabbed the ball under Prior to put the home side level. Renfrew 1 Ashfield 1.

The game continued to flow from end to end and despite the committed & physical challenges that were going on it had never been a particularly dirty match.

HALF TIME:- RENFREW 1 ASHFIELD 1

As in the first half Ashfield started at great pace again and were unlucky not to go ahead in the 47th Minute. A terrific free-kick from Mark Thomson cracked against the base of the Renfrew post. Mark Smith who started only his 2nd game for Ashfield played very well in the middle of the park & can be very pleased with his contribution. Mark was replaced by Shaun Fraser midway through the half and he carried on the good work driving hard at the Renfrew defence.

It was all Ashfield this half as the visitors took command and were unlucky with two chances from Corners kicks. Firstly Paul Maxwell outjumped the Renfrew keeper only to see his effort cleared on the goal line. Shortly after Mark Thomson headed narrowly wide from a great delivery by Alistair Martin. Darren O`Donnell was replaced by Craig Smith and shortly after the woodwork came to Renfrew`s aid when Ali Martin`s shot at the far post came back off the upright. No one could have envisaged what was about to happen in the game, however it started with Ashfield`s Jamie Reilly being given a straight Red for a late tackle. It had been Jamie`s first infringement in the Match & a yellow would have sufficed. Anyway it didn`t deter Ashfield from pushing forward to try and secure the three points.

The game turned on its head in the 84th Minute when Ali Martin & Craig Smith had a great chance at the far post to prod Ashfield ahead however the ball somehow got trapped between them and the chance was over. Immediately the ball was played long and over the top of the `field defence. McLean raced onto the ball and lobbed Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal from 25 yards out. It was an excellent finish from the Renfrew forward. Renfrew 2 Ashfield 1. The home side then used their experience to see the minutes out with many injuries taking place. Craig Smith for Ashfield had been caught by the `frew`s keeper`s follow through from a clearance on the 90th Minute however the game raged on. The ball broke through to Chris Prior in the visitors goal who lost control and brought down the Renfrew forward. The Referee pointed straight to the spot despite the visitor`s protests. No more so than Jim Smith who was given a Red Card for dissent along with Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal.

With Ashfield down to 8 Men, Centre Forward Paul Maxwell took over in goal however had no chance from the penalty as McLean lashed in Renfrew`s third and his own hat-trick. Renfrew 3 Ashfield 1. A real cruel blow for Ashfield who couldn`t believe what had unfolded. The Match itself now was extremely tousy and the Referee brought the Match to a close amid scenes of players squaring up to each other. The Referee obviously not content with 3 Red Cards, sent off Craig Smith of Ashfield and the No 11 of Renfrew to leave everyone in the crowd bewildered.

FULL TIME:- RENFREW 3 ASHFIELD 1

Man of the Match:- An all round good performance from Ashfield despite the result. The `field were up against a physical challenge this week and young Paul Mangan had an exceptional match at left back in only his 2nd season in Junior Football.

Ashfield`s long awaited success in the Scottish Junior Cup will have to wait for another year as the `field were beaten 3-2 this afternoon at McKenna Park, Govan. After a low-key start to the game, the Match really took off in the Second Half with goals a plenty, a missed penalty, a sending-off , numerous chances squandered however the end result is that St Anthony`s will be in the hat for Round 3.

A balmy afternoon greeted both Teams this afternoon and although there had been plenty of rain in Glasgow in the last 48 hours, the pitch was in excellent condition. Ashfield were in their changed strip of Yellow & Blue hoops & the Ants were in their normal Green & White hoops. The Crowd of Approx.100 were treated to a low key start with both teams giving each other respect and it took almost 20 minutes for the first chance of the Match, which fell to Ali Martin on the left hand side of the box. His shot was hit well & blocked by the legs of the Ants keeper Halpin.

St Anthony`s all of a sudden started to find gaps in the Ashfield rearguard and they almost went ahead in the 26th Minute after good work on the wing. The ball was played across the goalmouth & was knocked in at the far post by Madden however the Linesman had already flagged for Offside. A real-let off for Ashfield, a warning which they did not heed and in the 34th Minute the home side went ahead after some concerted pressure. A weak ball was played out of defence with the Ashfield midfield being dispossessed of the ball which was played through to Gary Madden. His low shot was saved well by Prior however the rebound was knocked into the empty net by Jamie Docherty to put the home side 1-0 up. St Anthony`s 1 Ashfield 0.

Ashfield had struggled to play their normal passing game and they knew they were up against it against an eager St Anthony`s side. Both teams cancelled each other out for the remaining minutes of the half.

HALF TIME:- ST ANTHONY`S 1 ASHFIELD 0

The first half had been slightly subdued for a Junior Cup Tie however the Second Half more than made up for it as both teams had a `real go` at each other. Just as Ashfield were beginning to assert themselves in the game, St Anthony`s new signing Jamie Docherty picked up the ball fully 25 yards out before curling a shot into the top corner of the net to the delight of the home support. St Anthony`s 2 Ashfield 0.

A real blow for Ashfield who immediately brought on Darren O`Donnell for left Back Davie Gumley in a bid to salvage the Match. The Ashfield forward made a really good impact on the game and immediately was linking up well with the Ashfield forwards and also brought out a great one-handed save from the Ants Keeper. A lovely move involving Thomson, O`Donnell and Chalmers resulted in the latter being pulled down inside the box & Referee McFaulds pointed immediately to the spot. The normally reliable Tony Chalmers placed his penalty wide of the post and the `field had missed a real chance to get back in the game especially as the Ants went straight up the park and increased their lead. A free kick was awarded to the home team just outside Ashfield`s box. The Free-Kick was drilled low into the wall however the ball went through, with the ball being deflected past Chris Prior to put the home side 3-0 up. St Anthony`s 3 Ashfield 0.

It was make or break for Ashfield and Craig Smith was brought on to try & salvage something from the Match. Ashfield were knocking the ball about well and were causing alarm in the home defence after some excellent deliveries by Mark Thomson. With 13 minutes remaining a lovely delivery from Thomson was headed on by Paul Maxwell and drilled home by the onrushing Darren O`Donnell to reduce the deficit. St Anthony`s 3 Ashfield 1.

It was all Ashfield now & the Ants were pinned back. Alistair Martin almost scored with 10 minutes to go after a `stramash` in the box saw his net-bound effort cleared off the line. Two minutes later and it was `game-on`. A lovely free-kick from Mark Thomson was met by Paul Maxwell and his glancing header ended up in the corner of the net to the delight of the travelling support. St Anthony`s 3 Ashfield 2.

St Anthony`s were trying to slow the game down at every opportunity and Ashfield`s frustration was evident with Thomson, Fraser & Mangan all being booked. Another chance fell to Ali Martin in the box however his half shot sailed over. With minutes remaining Ashfield`s Captain was sent off for speaking out of turn to the Referee and the home side played out the remainder of the game at Ashfield`s Corner flag area. A great Second Half to watch however it is St Anthony`s that will be in the hat for the next round. As for the `field it is back to League business next Saturday and a trip to Renfrew.

Man of the Match:- A difficult game for Ashfield with many players not being allowed to play their normal game, however Darren O`Donnell brought on that much needed spark and also scoring the first goal.

Newmains Utd 0 Ashfield F & A C 0 , (Ashfield won 4-3 on Penalties), Victoria Park, Newmains. Kick-Off 2pm

It was a David v Goliath scenario this afternoon at a sun drenched Victoria Park. Newmains Utd battled extremely hard all afternoon to take the match to Penalty Kicks with Ashfield, who made seven changes from last week`s match, relieved to progress into the next round winning 4-3 on spot kicks.

A beautiful Autumn afternoon greeted the teams on to the pitch for this West of Scotland Cup clash. Ashfield started the better side, trying to play passing football on a difficult playing surface. It was the visitors that almost grabbed the lead after eleven minutes. Ali Martin whipped in a corner to the near post area which was met by the head of Del Carmichael but the ball crashed off the bar (Pic Below)

It was one way traffic at this stage with Ashfield dominating the match but the Newmains rearguard were holding firm and frustrating the Ashfield forwards with timely challenges. The next chance fell to Ali Martin after twenty minutes but his shot from an acute angle was blocked for a corner. The resultant corner saw Jim Smith try his luck from twenty yards but the ball sailed wide of the post.

Ashfield could still not break the deadlock even though they had the vast possesion of play in the match. Ali Martin saw a twenty five yard free kick well held by the Newmains Keeper after twenty five minutes. The best chance of the match fell to the home side though after thirty nine minutes. A nice interchange in Midfield resulted in the Newmains Striker cutting inside the Ashfield box and shooting narrowly wide of Prior's near post.

Half time approached but Ashfield almost scored with a brilliant effort from Craig Smith. A cross from Gordon Passmore seemed to be behind 'Smiddy' but the Striker tried an overhead kick which was tipped over the bar by the Newmains Stopper.(Pic Below)

The second half started virtually like the first with Ashfield commanding the play but could still not puncture the stuffy Newmains defence. Newmains had rarely threatened in the first period but it was clear to see that they were gaining confidence and started to hit Ashfield on the counter attack.

Ashfield Manager, Stevie Rankin, had clearly seen enough as he made some substitutions to try and press for the opening goal. Mark Thomson, Paul Maxwell and Tony Chalmers were all brought on but to their credit Newmains kept battling and thwarted any Ashfield attack.

As Penalty Kicks loomed, Mark Thomson almost scored the vital goal but his net bound header was flicked wide by Darren O'Donnell from three yards out.

The referee played approx six minutes of injury time before blowing for the final whistle and Penalty Kicks.

Ashfield narrowly lost out this afternoon and therefore their chance to extend their lead at the top of the League. This was an eagerly awaited encounter and the large crowd were not disappointed as both teams gave their all in a pulsating 90 Minutes. The home side were ecstatic when the Referee brought proceedings to an end and it was going to be tough on the team who lost this afternoon as it was played at breakneck speed throughout with the forwards getting the best of their marking defenders this afternoon.

A mild afternoon welcomed both teams with Ashfield playing in their second strip of yellow & blue hoops. The game started off at great gusto with neat interchanging passing throughout the midfield areas coupled with some hard but fair tackles. It was the visitors that started the brighter and Maxwell & Smith up front were lively early on however the best chance of the opening exchanges came from the home side when the Glens Captain, Dickson bulleted a 22 yard drive an inch wide of Chris Prior`s post to the relief of the away support.

Shortly after however it was Ashfield that were celebrating after a wonderful goal from Tony Chalmers. The ball was played up to the left hand side of the box where Craig Smith managed to divert to ball into the path of an onrushing Tony Chalmers and the midfielder despatched his shot with the aid of a deflection into the roof of the net to send the visitors wild with delight. The goal gave Ashfield extra confidence and for the next period were playing some good football with Mark Thomson & Paul Maxwell settling into really good games. The Glens forwards were linking up well and were causing problems to Reilly & Smith at the back. Unfortunately for Ashfield Jamie Reilly had to be replaced due to injury and Jim Smith teamed up with his brother at the back, however minutes later Ashfield were pegged back by a well worked Glencairn goal. For the first time in the Match the impressive Tony Fraser was involved in a Glens build up and his low hard cross to the far post was met by the onrushing Paul McLaughlin who bulleted his shot past Prior for the Glens equaliser. R`Glen Glencairn 1 Ashfield 1.

All of a sudden the game changed and the Glens swarmed forward and within 90 seconds were ahead, Mark Thomson, who had an excellent Match for the `field, was caught in midfield and the ball was played through to McGladrigan. The ex-Ashfield striker drove the ball low and hard into the net to the delight of the home support. R`Glen Glencairn 2 Ashfield 1.

It was certainly `game on` and the vociferous crowd did not have to wait long for the next piece of action. The Glens No 3 who incredibly had avoided being put in Referee Wake`s book for an earlier infringement found himself caught up with Ashfield midfielder Shaun Fraser. After an altercation both players received `yellows`and the `field were awarded a Free-Kick.

Mark Thomson whipped in a superb Free-Kick and despite the attentions of the Glens Defence Paul Maxwell glanced a header into the top corner of the net for his 8th goal of the season. An impressive finish from the Ashfield legend ! R`Glen Glencairn 2 Ashfield 2.

HALF TIME:- RUTHERGLEN GLENCAIRN 2 ASHFIELD 2

As always happens, a Match that had everything in the first half probably did not live up to expectations in the second half as both teams cancelled and stifled each other slightly. Ashfield certainly had more of the possession however the Glens made more of the chances and ended up edging this thriller.

Chances were at premium in the second half compared to the first and Ashfield were still playing some good football driven on by Captain Mark Thomson. Referee Chris Wake however involved himself in proceedings in the 56th minute when he overruled his linesman after Paul Maxwell had found the net with a header stating offside despite the linesman keeping his flag down - a very controversial decision. However as the half wore on the Glens, shooting down the slope, started to cause the `field back four problems and no more so than in the 65th Minute when Paul McLaughlin picked the ball up on the edge of the Ashfield box, cut in, and drove a shot under the body of Chris Prior to the roar of the home fans. R`Glen Glencairn 3 Ashfield 2.

Ashfield made a quick change by bringing Darren O`Donnell on & shortly after, Ryan Cairley, to try and salvage something from the Match. Tony Chalmers was trying his utmost on the right hand side, ably supported by Gordon Passmore, & it was Tony who brought out a great save from the Glens keeper in the 73rd minute after a mazy run.
Glencairn should have sealed the match shortly after however were thwarted by an excellent one handed reflex save from Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal. The Match flowed from one penalty box to another however try as the visitors did they could not penetrate the home defence and the Glens took the honours. It had been a great game and if both teams carry on in the same vein then they will both have good seasons. There was also a good crowd at the game which is also encouraging.

An emphatic win today for the Springburn team in blustery conditions takes Ashfield Football & Athletic Club to the top of the West SuperLeague First Division, which is a remarkable achievement considering 3 Seasons ago we were in the lowest league. New signing Del Carmichael opened the scoring after twenty minutes, with a blistering shot into the corner of net after great link up play with Paul Maxwell. Kilsyth had a strong wind behind them in the First Half but could not penetrate the Ashfield goal. Paul Maxwell and Tony Chalmers scored in the second half to take Ashfield to the top of the League.

The wind was howling around Saracen Park this afternoon as the teams ran on to the pitch. Kilsyth won the toss and elected to kick with the wind for the first half. Both teams had been in good form, so an entertaining game was anticipated. The early stages were cagey with both teams reluctant to open up. Ashfield had new signing Del Carmichael in their forward line which almost paid off after fifteen minutes. A nice one-two at the edge of the Kilsyth box resulted in Carmichael firing in a deflected shot which the 'Rangers' keeper tipped well just over the bar.

Kilsyth were also looking dangerous with their number 10 lively in the forward line but even against a strong wind, Ashfield looked the more dangerous going forward and the opening goal was scored after twenty minutes. Paul Maxwell picked the ball up on the left side and whipped over a cross to Carmichael, who's initial shot was blocked, but the big Striker had a second opportunity as it fell back to him and he made no mistake by firing it low in the corner of the net from ten yards out. Ashfield 1 Kilsyth Rangers 0.

HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 1 KILSYTH RANGERS 0

Ashfield started the second half with the wind behind them and this paid off almost immediately when they were awarded a corner after fifty five minutes. Ali Martin whipped over a fierce corner to the near post area which was met by the head of Paul Maxwell. The ball flew high into the net from close range to give the 'Field' a great advantage. Ashfield 2 Kilsyth Rangers 0.

Ashfield were now in great command of this match and piled forward with every opportunity. Mark Thomson was having a great game in midfield supported by the eager Shaun Fraser. Kilsyth could not muster a fight back with every threatening ball being dealt with by Alan Smith, Gordon Passmore, Davie Gumley and Jamie Reilly at the back for the home team.

Ashfield maintained the pressure on Kilsyth and were rewarded after seventy five minutes. A long throw was delivered into the Kilsyth box in the range of Paul Maxwell, who tried to shield the ball but was covered by the arms of the Kilsyth Defender(above). Referee, McCrossan spotted the infringement straight away and awarded a penalty. Tony Chalmers stepped up and calmly wrong footed the Kilsyth goalkeeper to increase the 'Field's' lead. Ashfield 3 Kilsyth Rangers 0.

The match was virtually over at this stage but the home side still threatened the Kilsyth goal area. Craig Smith was brought on and almost scored after he was released down the right side before cutting in only to see his shot blocked from the Kilsyth keeper. Ali Martin then had the next effort as he cut in and unleashed a 'rocket' from twenty five yards that caught the cross bar and was cleared.

The remaining minutes were then played out without incident with Ashfield moving to the top of the table!!!.

Man of the Match:- A terrific team performance from the `field this afternoon with special mentions to Alan Smith, Mark Thomson, Jamie Reilly & to Del Carmichael for his first goal in the Black & White hoops, however for the third week running Paul `Maxi` Maxwell was a real handful to the oppostion back four scoring one and making two. Well done `Maxi` !!

Ashfield welcomed Maybole to Saracen Park for the first time in many years and produced four quality finishes to take the famous Springburn outfit to the summit of the West SuperLeague First Division.

Both teams were eager from the Kick-off to take the game to each other and it was the visitors that started the stronger with the Ashfield Midfield still trying to get to grips with the game early on. A few early corners from Maybole were well cleared by the Ashfield defence. As the half wore on Ashfield started to get into their rythmn and with their first real piece of concerted pressure almost broke the deadlock when Paul Maxwell missed a header from a corner kick.

Ashfield almost incredibly took the lead on the 22nd Minute when Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal took a Free Kick from inside his own half which completely deceived the Maybole keeper and crashed off the underside of the bar to safety. Maybole, however went straight up the park and almost took the lead. A ball through the middle was collected by the Centre Forward & his shot was blocked by Prior only to be retrieved by the same player. His cutback was met by a colleague who slammed the ball against the post & Ashfield managed to clear.

Maybole were to pay for this & in the 26th Minute Ashfield took the lead. Some excellent work on the right wing resulted in the ball being played to Ali Martin at the far post and his downward shot bounced off the ground and over the Keeper to put the `field 1-0 up. Ashfield 1 Maybole 0.

Ashfield started to play some really good football with Chalmers on the right wing and Martin on the Left wing stretching the visitors & on the 34th Minute Ashfield found themselves 2-0 up. A superb through ball from Ali Martin found Paul Maxwell through one-on-one with the keeper however his shot was parried out to the onrushing Shaun Fraser who drilled the ball low & hard and into the corner of the net to put the `field 2-0 up. Ashfield 2 Maybole 0.

This gave Ashfield a nice cushion and they needed to consolidate before half time however a minute after scoring they found themselves pegged back by a strong Maybole attack. A corner was played to the far side of the six yard box and was met powerfully by the Maybole Centre Half and his looping header found the back of the net. Ashfield 2 Maybole 1.

HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 2 MAYBOLE 1

It been a very competitive first half and Ashfield knew they were in a game as the second half started off in the same fashion as the first. Ashfield however were beginning to string their passes together and Captain Mark Thomson & Shaun Fraser in the Midfield were beginning to take control. The next goal was going to be all important and it was the home side that got it in style. Ashfield were awared a Free-Kick 20 yards out after Paul Maxwell had been brought down. Mark Thomson delivered a dipping 20 yard shot which found the top left hand corner of the net to the delight of the home support. It really was a terrific strike. Ashfield 3 Maybole 1.

This was the cushion Ashfield needed and they started to pile on the pressure on the visitors with Tony Chlamers having two efforts cleared and saved by the Maybole keeper. Maybole were still dangerous and had a couple of chances, but were thwarted by Chris Prior in the Ashfield goal and Jamie Reilly at the back, who was having a great game against a physical forward line. As Maybole pushed forward Ashfield were beginning to find gaps in the home defence and with 4 minutes to go, Man of the Match Paul Maxwell found himself through one-on-one with the keeper. Maxi steadied himself and drilled the ball past the keeper for his 6th Goal of the Season. This capped off a fine display from the Ashfield Centre. Ashfield 4 Maybole 1.

As the Referee brought proceedings to an end, Ashfield have now won their last 4 League Matches against tough opposition in Girvan, Clydebank, Cumnock & Maybole and can go into next week`s encounter with Kilsyth Rangers with confidence. Well done the `field.

Man of the Match:- A great Team Performance from the `Meninblack&White` with everyone putting in a shift against tough opponents however for second week running Paul Maxwell gave the visitors defence a torrid time & capped off his performance with a fine goal.
