Ashfield have had a legend of players in the past and many of them have moved to playing and managing senior teams. This month we have Billy Reid, Manager of Hamilton Academicals F.C. who was an Ashfield legend. Billy has written a small article for the website below: -
Many Thanks to Billy Reid (in the black suit at the front) and all associated with Hamilton Accies Fc

Past Players Comments - ashfield afc

I signed for Ashfield at age 18 from Petershill, where I had played about
12 games then was dropped when two Scottish junior internationals at the
time, Andy Daly and David Watson, came back. I thought this unjust and
moved to Ashfield at that time, to a so called less fashionable club.

Junior Semple signed me, then Billy McConville (I think), helped out the
team. We reached the final of the Sectional League Cup against Shotts at
Fir Park. The first game was abandoned due to floodlight
failure. In the replay we lost 4-1 (or was it 3-0?) to a Shotts side who I
think included Brian Martin who later went on to play for Falkirk, Accies,
Motherwell and Scotland.

We had some great characters in our side none more so than Mick Reilly and
John Joyce. Myself and Big Sandy (I can't remember his surname) moved on
to my first senior club, Queen of the South, where I made well over 100
appearances. I went on to make over 400 appearances in senior football at
Clyde, Accies and Stirling.

I remember old Mick the physio who was brilliant to me in my time at
Ashfield, I met him at Maryhill's ground a year ago and he told me he
still had an association with the club.

I wish the club all the best in the future.
