Match Reports - ashfield afc

31st March 2007 - Royal Albert FC v Ashfield AFC

A tough test for the 'field' as they ran out in their away strip at Robert Mellie Memorial Park, Larkhall. The game started lively on a bobbly pitch with both teams trying to gain control. A long kick from the Ashfield goalie was headed neatly down from O'Donnell before unleashing a rocket in to the top corner of the net. 1-0 Ashfield. Royal Albert played some neat football and made Ashfield work hard for their one goal lead.

Ashfield made it two after a dreadful blunder from the Royal Albert goalie. The ball was played back to the goalie but it bobbled straight over his leg as he was about to kick it and ended up in the net. 2-0 Ashfield.

Royal Albert got back in the game after a neat one-two resulted in a low shot across the keeper from the left side of the box. Tolland could have made it 3 for Ashfield before half time but his left foot volley was tipped round the post for a corner. HALF TIME - ROYAL ALBERT 1 ASHFIELD 2

Royal Albert started the second half with the wind but it was Ashfield that took a grip of the game. Maxwell and O'Donnell tormented the Albert defence and eventually the 3rd went in. A fine chip over the defence was met by Maxwell who slotted it to the keepers left hand side and into the net. This took the sting out of Royal Albert and O'Donnell could have scored another but was foiled by a last gasp tackle from the Albert defender.

FULL TIME - ROYAL ALBERT 1 ASHFIELD 3

A vital win for Ashfield in the promotion chase. Our Man of the Match: - Mcbrearty
