Glasgow Perthshire 0 Ashfield F. & A.C. 4 (HT 0-2) at Keppoch Park, Glasgow

Ashfield travelled the short distance to play their local derby against Perthshire in the Sectional League Cup. After a great midweek win at Yoker, Ashfield were looking to maintain their challenge in Section 6. A changed Ashfield line-up appeared in their third kit (yellow & blue) and took the game straight to Perthshire, missing some great opportunities in the first 10 minutes to take the lead. The game was played (as you would expect) in a competitive manner with both teams not giving an inch. Paul Maxwell was back for Ashfield and was partnered up front by a lively Wes Pattison. This combo struck in the 30th minute to give Ashfield a well deserved lead. A free kick was delivered to the back of the 'shire' box where Maxwell rose and flicked the ball across the box to an on-rushing Pattison to stroke the ball into the net. There was no "mercurial save" this time blocking Wes Pattison`s effort.

This goal brought a flurry of fouls and hard challenges. Perthshire were trying to 'muscle' their way through Ashfield but Smith (recent signing from Arthurlie) and Tartaglia held firm in Midfield giving out as good as they got. A free kick was awarded to Ashfield after 40 mins deep in the Perthshire half. Michael Tolland delivered a wicked cross to the heart of the box which was met by the forehead of Thomson, the ball hitting the net before the shire goal keeper could see it. As tempers began to flare the half time whistle was blown.

Half time: Perthshire 0 Ashfield 2

Perthshire v Ashfield - Sat 11th Aug 2007. Sectional League Cup - ashfield afc

The 2nd half started with an 'edge' about it and this was seen after 50 minutes when Perthshire were reduced to 10 men. A through ball was played through to the Perthshire number 10 but it ran away from him and resulted in a stud-to -stud colllision with Aitchison in the Ashfield goal. Aitchison was receiving treatment as the referee pulled a straight red card for the Perthshire forward.

This spurred the 'shire' forward and they played some good football until Ashfield grabbed a decisive 3rd goal. Chalmers had replaced Pattison in the forward line and he scored with almost his first touch. A long throw from the left hand side of the Perthshire box was missed by everyone apart from Chalmers who shadowed in and lashed the ball into the net from close range.

Ashfield took control after this with O'Donnell replacing Maxwell upfront, with the UnOfficial Website Player of the Year for last season missing from close range on a number of occasions. The 'shire' goalkeeper made some great saves during the latter part of the match. Ashfield got a 4th shortly after with an exquisite goal from Chalmers. Garscadden recently signed from Shettleston delivered a floating bullet to the back post where Chalmers nodded it in to an empty net. Garscadden's left foot is a real joy to watch!.

The game was totally in Ashfield's control and chance after chance beckoned but a great win for the 'field' against a plucky aggressive Perthshire side, who will compete well in their League this season. Ashfield now turn their attentions to Clydebank J F C next Saturday (18th Aug) at Saracen Park, Glasgow, which could be a possible Sectional League Cup Section decider ?!!! A big Crowd is expected and we look forward to welcoming the large travelling support from Clydebank. Please note that there will be a Programme on Sale for this Match.

Cmon the 'Field'!!!!!!!!!!!!!
