Dunipace Juniors F C v Ashfield - Sat.27th Oct.2007. Stagecoach Central League Division 1 - ashfield afc

Ashfield defeated Dunipace 2-0 this afternoon. Goals from Paul Maxwell and Gordon Passmore push Ashfield into 2nd place in the League.
Ashfield made a few enforced changes to the line up ahead of this afternoon`s match at Dunipace following last weeks Cup match at Beith. Ashfield kicked off in their away strip of yellow and blue, & both teams struggled to get going in the first 15 minutes, however as the half wore on Ashfield took control and produced a fine attacking display heading into the dressing room at half time two goals up. Before taking the lead in the 30th Minute, Tony Chalmers had come close only to be denied by an excellent goalkeeping performance by the Dunipace keeper who produced two world class saves to deny Ashfield. However in the 30th minute after a period of concerted pressure a right wing cross was met well by Paul Maxwell and despite the efforts of the keeper the ball crossed the line. (See below)

Two minutes later and Ashfield were heading for three points. Gordon Passmore, who had earlier tried his luck from 30 yards, hit a cracking shot (see below) which sailed over the `pace Goalkeeper and into the top right hand corner to the delight of the players, bench and travelling support. Dunipace almost pulled a goal back on half time from a free kick 20 yards out, however the effort was well saved by McGovern in the Ashfield goal.

HALF TIME:- DUNIPACE F C 0 ASHFIELD F & A C 2

The second half started at the same pace as the first with neither team giving an inch. Dunipace are a very compact & well organised outfit, however it was the `field that carried the more menace in attack, with Chalmers and Maxwell linking up well. The game got slightly bogged down in Midfield, which was not helped by the Referee pulling out the yellow card on six occasions. Steven McGovern in the Ashfield goal dealt well with a couple of cross balls from set pieces midway through the half and this was the only time he was troubled with Ashfield going close on a couple of occasions.

Darren O`Donnell came on for Chalmers towards the end of the match, and last years top scorer kept the `pace defence on the backfoot for the remainder. A couple of rash challenges on substitutes Tartaglia and Tolland, showed Dunipace`s frustration as Ashfield played out the game and a welcome three points. An all round good and workman like performance from Ashfield, with McKnight & Passmore putting in excellent displays also. Back to Cup Action next week with a home tie v Shettleston in the `Scottish`, before heading to Cumbernauld Utd on League action on the 10th November.......C`mon the `field

Man of the Match:- Excellent performance from all of the Ashfield Team, however Tony Chalmers attacking prowess gives him the nod this week.

Attendance:- 81
