Ashfield F & A C 0 Yoker Athletic 2 , Saracen Park, Glasgow. Kick-Off 1.45pmAshfield welcomed Yoker Athletic to Saracen Park for the second time this season and their third meeting overall. Both clashes so far had been very close affairs and the last game at Holm Park proved to be a cracker with Craig Smith scoring the winner for Ashfield in injury time. However it was the visitors that left with the points today, scoring two goals in the final six minutes to put a dent in Ashfield`s progression up the League Table.
Yoker started the brighter team and had all the play in the opening stages without troubling Stevie McGovern in the Ashfield goal, however for the next half hour it was Ashfield that took command with Mark Thomson, who had earlier missed a golden opportunity in front of goal, hitting the crossbar with a free-kick after a succession of corner kicks. O`Donnell was partnering Tony Chalmers up front today and both were unlucky with a couple efforts, however the `field were missing the awesome pace of Craig Smith who was injured in last week`s Cup win against Hurlford Utd. Five minutes from half time Yoker had their first serious attempt at goal but McGovern palmed the ball past his right hand post. Ashfield would be disappointed not to go in ahead at half time after dominating most of the first half play.
HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 YOKER ATHLETIC 0Yoker had the breeze behind them in the Second Half and came out a transformed team with the `field having to defend for most of the half. In a bid to change proceeedings Ashfield replaced Cairley & O`Donnell with Gault and Maxwell. Good to see the big Striker back after a long lay off through injury however there was not much improvement in the `field`s performance as Stevie McGovern kept the home side in the game with a number of excellent saves. In the 84th Minute following a corner from the left, Yoker had a couple of headers goalwards before the ball somehow ended up in the net.
Ashfield 0 Yoker Athletic 1.
For the remaining Six minutes Ashfield pressed hard but over eagerness and poor finishing failed to produce any results and in the last minute of injury time when the `field had pushed everyone up, the visitors broke away to score the second goal to gain revenge on earlier results this season.
Ashfield 0 Yoker Athletic 2. The Referee had a decent game but was a trifle `card-happy`. Ashfield must pick themselves up and move on as all good runs come to an end. Next up is an away trip to Lesmahagow on the 3rd January 2009........C`mon the `field !!
FINAL SCORE:- ASHFIELD 0 YOKER ATHLETIC 2Man of the Match:- Difficult to pick a Man of the Match - Jamie Reilly did not deserve to be on the losing side however
Stevie McGovern was clearly Ashfield`s best performer on the day.
