ASHFIELD F & A C 0 YOKER ATHLETIC 0, Saracen Park, Glasgow

Ashfield had to settle for a share of the spoils this afternoon at Saracen Park in a very competitive match indeed. Chances were few and far between and both defences were very organised. Ashfield, buoyed by their brilliant end to last week`s match, made a few enforced changes, due to injuries and illness. John Gaynor started the game after his 2 goals at St Anthony`s and slotted into a midfield role in place of Kevin Miller who was ill. Yoker made the brighter start and were causing `the field a few problems with their set pieces and throw-ins, however the Ashfield defence restricted the Yoker forwards to only half-chances. Ashfield came into the match towards the end of the first half, however were restricted to long range efforts from Mark Thomson, Gaynor and Martin Gault.
HALF TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 YOKER ATH 0

The second half was a much better spectacle with both teams having a real go at each other. Yoker were playing with a lot of grit and determination, marshalled by ex-Ashfield stalwart Scott Cameron, however the best chances were falling to Ashfield. O`Donnell replaced the hard working Tony Chalmers midway through the second half in an attempt to take all three points. Paul Maxwell, was denied a definite goal in the 78th Minute after running in on goal from the halfway line, only to be denied by a lasp ditch tackle by the Yoker defender. Alan Smith brought out an excellent save from the visiting keeper a few minutes later, and at the other end Stevie McGovern was kept busy by the menace of the Yoker`s set pieces. It was end to end towards the conclusion of the match, however taking the whole match in, a draw was a fair result. This result hoists Ashfield up to the 21 point mark at the halfway point of the season which is a remarkable achievement after being promoted last season. 6 wins, 3 Draws and only 2 defeats is an excellent performance and the players and coaching staff should be well pleased with their efforts.
FULL TIME:- ASHFIELD 0 YOKER ATH. 0
Man of the Match:- All of the team fought hard this afternoon in a tough match, however Jamie Reilly was outstanding at the back for Ashfield.
Attendance:- 60
