Ashfield v Benburb - Sat.6th Oct 2007 Stagecoach Central League Division 1

Ashfield had Smith and Gumley replacing Garscadden and Tolland from the team that defeated St Rochs last Saturday.
Ashfield ran out in a splendid new white top with black flashes and started the game strongly with Gumley testing the 'Bens' goalkeeper in the 1st minute. Chalmers then followed this up and narrowly missed with a 20-yard shot that skimmed the post.
Play was scrappy during the 1st half although Maxwell had a goal disallowed by the referee who apparently saw an infingement which was not obvious to the spectators.
Half Time: - Ashfield 0 Benburb 0
The 'Bens' made a good start to the 2nd half and were camped in the Ashfield half of the park for long spells but found the narrow park and the hard tackling from the Ashfield defence difficult to penetrate.
After approx 70mins Ashfield took the lead, a shot from Passmore was palmed out by the goalkeeper and Chalmers took full advantage and tucked it into the net. Ashfield 1 Benburb 0.
Ashfield then make a couple of substitutions with Gault and O'Donnell replacing Miller and Chalmers and within 5 minutes of this change Ashfield dealt the killer blow. O'Donnell picked the ball up and beat the Benburb defence before slotting the ball past the keeper from 18 yards. Ashfield 2 Benburb 0.
This goal finished the game and Ashfield played the match out without any incident.
Ashfield played very well with the back four and the 2 substitutes outstanding. Benburb gave a good account of themselves but tried to play too intricate football on a tight park.
